International Mobile Terminated Charges
Effective October 1, 2013, IST will begin passing along associated costs for International Mobile Terminated Charges (IMTC). The charges will primarily reflect
call activity beginning in October, but could include charges up to 90 days in arrears. Customers will see these charges on their November 2013 billing statements.
Because of the complexities of international billing, IST had previously covered a significant portion of this expense for departments. New detail into the billing process has been made available to identify the origin of calls, and IST is no longer able to absorb these charges. IST remains committed to transparency in our billing process and ensuring that customers are aware that in many cases, these types of calls result in substantial charges.
Defining International Mobile Terminated Charges
Termination rates refer to charges one telecommunications operator charges another for terminating calls on its network. An International Mobile Terminated call is one where you placed an international call from your campus desktop telephone and the person you called answered it on a mobile device. This could happen when the person gives you a mobile number or when they transfer their calls from a landline to a mobile number. This applies only to international calls. These calls often end up being more expensive as rates from third party international carriers fluctuate.
