How to use the Berkeley Security Software (BSS) validation tool

Introduction

The Berkeley Security Software Validation Tool is available in the Self Service portal for Windows and macOS. It is used to validate that the Berkeley Security Software components Trellix and BigFix are successfully installed on your computer. The Validation Tool will also gather and display computer information that may be helpful for your IT support provider to troubleshoot potential issues with EDR and your computer.

Instructions

Windows
1. Open the Self Service portal by clicking the small “b” icon in the taskbar

2. Locate the option called “Berkeley Security Software Validation/Troubleshooting Tool,” select it, and click the “Accept” button

3. The Validation Tool will silently run in the background and then display the results in a new Notepad window. You may copy and paste the results to give to your IT support provider if needed.

MacOS
1. Open the Self Service portal by double clicking the Self Service app: “/Applications/Self Service.app”

2. Locate the option called “Berkeley Security Software Validation Tool” and click the “Validate” button.
