An update to Chrome in early 2016 caused signing into the Chrome browser via a UC Berkeley bConnected account would cause a shibboleth error.
To work around the issue, please follow the instructions below:
- Select Chrome Settings or go to: chrome://settings/
- Click "Add person..." button (in the People section)
- Enter Name (can be nickname)
- Select avatar
- Enter email address, click "Sign In"
- Enter CalNet ID and passphrase in CAS window
- Done
If you instead click "Sign in to Chrome" at the top of the settings page, you will get the Shibboleth error.
Note: When the Chrome browser is opened for the first time on a device without an existing profile, CAS authentication will work. However if you ignore the login screen and start browsing, you will be creating profile Person 1, and then if you attempt to authenticate into the Chrome browser, you will be required to "Add person".
