It is a campus goal, as well as an aspiration for most instructors, to make UC Berkeley course materials broadly accessible, ensuring that all students can access and utilize course materials (see Letter from Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education). The bCourses Ally tool helps instructors and students in this effort. However, there are special considerations and legal obligations for students with a Letter of Accommodation. Our Disabled Students' Program (DSP) works with instructors to make sure that we meet these responsibilities.

Prior to the start of each term, the Disabled Students' Program (DSP) sends a letter to each faculty member notifying them that a student with a disability is enrolled in their course and provides accommodations to tailor content to individual students' needs (see attachment in right sidebar). For example, DSP can create braille, tactile graphics, and EPUB files that are designed to work with the students' assistive technologies.

The Disabled Students' Program can access class content stored in bCourses without instructor intervention, and share remediated files directly with students. This direct access helps to ensure that the University meets its obligation to make this content accessible.
