How can I determine which of my Kaltura media is missing captions and transcripts?

In Kaltura, the transcript depends on the captions file. If media has captions, it should have a transcript.

To determine which Kaltura media entries are missing captions and transcripts:

  1. Go to either My Media (to check media you own or are a collaborator on) or Media Gallery in a course site (to check media in that Media Gallery only).
  2. Select the Filters button.
    Filters button
A number of columns are exposed, containing filters to select from. Alternatively, if you have zoomed in or have a narrow window, a Filters dialog opens.
  3. If "Captions" isn't listed, select the Browse Filters button or, if in the separate dialog, scroll down.
  4. Under "Captions", select "Not Available".
Captions filter with "Not Available" selected

The media entries now listed are the ones missing captions.

  5. You may want apply other filters to narrow your results, for example:
    • If you are only concerned about the media that has already been published, you'll want to, under Publish Status, select "Published".
    • If you know there are still images in the list of media you're checking, you'll want to, under Media Type, select "Video" and "Audio".

For any published media entries that are listed, you'll want to make sure they are not published in currently available bCourses course sites.
If media missing captions is published anywhere that users can access, you should add captions. See "How can I generate captions or a transcript if my Kaltura media is missing them?"

Please note that the technique described above will find media that is missing a captions file, but will NOT necessarily identify media that has empty (or near empty) captions. It is always a good idea, for any media that you intend to use in your courses, to play it with captions enabled, to ensure that there are actually captions.
