General Information on SIS
SIS is the Student Information System that holds the most updated course and instructor information for the Online Schedule of Courses and also for the Course Evaluations system.
SIS is important to Course Evaluations service because it is the main data source from which OEC gathers all of its information. This is why it is detrimental for department administrators to carefully input information into SIS, as any errors here will also be reflected on the information that OEC receives.
Through SIS, the Online Evaluation of Courses is able to streamline its data by screening out courses that have zero enrollment, canceled sections, and independent studies courses, so that these are not erroneously evaluated. OEC is also able to view instructor’s job codes to identify whether the instructor is a GSI or Faculty member. Our program assumes that a department wants to use its own evaluation form when evaluating non-cross-listed classes (i.e., Physics 10 will receive a evaluation form from the Physics department).
Information that is automatically inputted from SIS to OEC includes the following:
GSIs are usually not listed immediately on department confirmation sheets because hiring for GSI is usually not finalized until a few weeks into the term. For this reason, a department may need to manually input GSI data if their information is not yet reflected in the SIS database.
