Due to the nature of some network services, it may be difficult to provide an accurate up front expected completion date for a new service request. However the team strives to meet the following expectations for service delivery.
Connections to Data Network/Ethernet Ports
This includes new wired ethernet services as well as service cancelation or basic changes such as moving a port from one subnet to another.
Where there is an existing ethernet port these requests typically take 10 business days to complete.
If no port exists and one must be installed, this may take an additional 30 business days (6 weeks).
bSecure Firewall Services
New Firewall services or modifications to existing services are typically completed within 10 business days.
Expand Wi-Fi coverage
Installation of Wi-Fi access points is a complex activity requiring design and planning and often significant infrastructure work (for example cabling and conduit installation). New Wi-Fi coverage can take between 3 and 6 months to complete, depending on the scope and complexity of the implementation. Simpler additions and changes (for example where a small number of APs are needed to close a coverage hole) may happen significantly faster.
DNS/DHCP
Most requests for DNS or DHCP changes (for example fixed IP addresses) are completed within 4 business days. Some complex requests may take longer. This is particularly the case if you are requesting a name in the top level of
berkeley.edu or a DNS record pointing to an off site host as there are additional policy processes which must be completed after the request is received.
Load Balancer
Requests for load balancer services are typically completed within 5 business days.
Other Data Network Service
This category covers services which are uncommon or customized. Due to the broad range of potential implementation scopes and complexity it is difficult to estimate the expected time to complete this type of work until we have discussed the details. Typically these requests take at least 20 business days to complete.
Site to site VPN
Site to site VPN configuration can require significant coordination and testing with external entities. It may take up to 20 business days for us to complete these types of requests.
