Cellular Equipment Options: Departing Employees

Once a cell phone is purchased from bIT, it belongs to the department and Telecom does not require it to be returned.   

Here are some options a department can take for an employee with a department-provided cell phone leaving UC Berkeley employment:

• Decide if they want the equipment back for reassignment to someone else and collect the phone.   For sanitary reasons, some users are reluctant to take over used phones previously assigned to others.

• Send it to excess & salvage (https://property.berkeley.edu/contact-us). 
  • To discontinue the associated carrier charges, bIT needs a disconnect request for the cellular line.  

• To transfer ownership from UC to the departing employee, please review the process on KBT0012473.  This will allow the departing employee to port the number and begin paying the ongoing charges for the line.
