A knowledge base article about Linking to an external website provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal
If you’d like to add an external link directly in your Course Navigation menu, you can use the “Redirect Tool”, which can be found in the Apps section of your course settings, see instructions below:
1. In your course site, select on Settings at the bottom of the left-hand Course Navigation menu.
2. Select the Apps tab. A list of external apps that can be added to bCourses will be displayed.
3. Find and select the app called "Redirect Tool" (see screenshot below)
4. Select Add app.
5. Fill in the properties of your link:
6. Your link will be added to the bottom of the Course Navigation menu. To move it higher or lower, select the Navigation tab from your course Settings, click and drag the link to your preferred menu location, and select Save.
If you copy a bCourses site, the links from the Redirect Tools will also be copied. Make sure to update them if they link to pages in the older course or students will not be able to access the link destination.
You can add links from within the Rich Content Editor, which is a word processing tool that you will see throughout Canvas whenever you are creating content, allowing you to format your text and add media.
