Administrative Guide to Extended Absence Greeting for Avaya Voicemail

- Setting the Extended Absence Greeting requires the use to complete two steps:
- Recording a new Extended Absence greeting.
- Changing the location from “In Office” to “Extended Absence”
- The Extended Absence Greeting will now play for callers who reach voicemail
- Unsetting the Extended Absence Greeting requires only one step:
- Change the location from “Extended Absence” back to “In Office”.
- The user’s main greeting will now play.
IMPORTANT ADMINISTRATIVE STEPS:
To allow the Extended Absence Greeting to play, the Voicemail Administrator must take the following steps:
To play the user recorded greeting for 'Extended Absence' the location must be set to play the 'Location Greeting'.
- Navigate to the User’s mailbox
- Navigate to the Locations tab

- Press “Edit” next to ‘Extended Absence’
- Select ‘Location Greetings’
- Make sure ‘Location Greeting’ is chosen and not ‘Default’ or ‘Automated Name and Location.

- Choosing ‘Default’ will play the user’s Main Greeting
- Choosing ‘Automated Name and Location’ will play and automated message stating, “<User’s Name> is on an extended absence.”
Additional Administrative Tip
The end user is expected to change their location for themselves using the instructions found in KBT0013898. However an administrator can check and even change the user’s location using the following steps:
- Navigate to the User’s mailbox and choose ‘Current Location Settings’
- Set ‘Location’ to appropriate setting.
