Entering a Chart String/GL

This shows which elements of the Chart of Accounts (also known as the GL, COA, Chart String) that the customer should provide:

Element	Required	number of digits	Description
Business Unit	Yes	1	This identifies the accounting group.
Account	Do not enter		his is determined by the nature of the service and is not entered by the customer.
Fund	Yes	5	This identifies the source of the money.
Department ID (Dept ID)	Yes	5	This identifies the unit associated with the financial transaction.
Program code	Needed for non-capital project Chart of Accounts. If it is a Capital Projects GL, leave the program code blank.	2	This identifies the functional control point.
Chart Field 1	Optional If you have a chartfield 2 but no chartfield 1 then enter 6 zeros in this field.	6 alphanumeric	This identifies a specific activity.
Chart Field 2	Optional	5 alphanumeric	This identifies a specific department transaction.
