Virtual Private Server

A service overview and catalog of Virtual Private Server provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub.

Berkeley IT Platform Infrastructure offers managed virtual servers as an alternative to managed physical servers. This service takes advantage of virtualization technology to host multiple virtual servers, each of which functions as a complete and independent server, on a single physical server.

How much does it cost?

VMs are charged (Monthly) based on CPU, RAM, and Storage for VMs:

VM vCPU $4.00 per vCPU
VM Memory/RAM -$2.00 per GB
Performance Storage - $0.11 per GB
Utility Storage - $0.04 per GB

Resource Pool (Collection of CPU and RAM) for a large number of VMs:

Same cost for CPU and Memory as above
Good for Dedicated ESXi replacement
Group of resources that can be shared with your VMs
More efficient for large environments

System Administration Options

Berkeley IT Platform Infrastructure Supported VPS	Base VPS that is managed and monitored by Berkeley IT Platform Infrastructure.	+ $153.00/mo for Standard Support + $430.00/mo for Extended Support

How do I get it?

Virtual Private Servers are available by subscription which is charged monthly to the department's University IT billing statement.
