IT Service Continuity & Disaster Recovery

A service overview and catalog of IT Service Continuity & Disaster Recovery provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub.

Description

We provide support for IT resiliency and IT recovery solutions, and services for campus applications administered by Berkeley IT, both locally and at UC Berkeley's fail-over site at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC an off site location for redundant or backup services. IT Disaster Recovery is defined as keeping the enterprise functional no matter where it is being executed, locally or remotely, and ensures that the enterprise functionality will be available to its customers and users at all times. There are three components to IT Service Continuity:

Disaster Recovery Location & Emergency Protocol

The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) serves as UC Berkeley's primary off-site facility for redundant and backup services. This includes storing UCBackup data, hosting a Virtual Machine (VM) environment for applications that require hardware/VM redundancy, and providing space to deploy additional hardware for potential restoration and production during a disaster.

Berkeley IT (bIT) is prepared to initiate fail-over for applications with hardware or VMs hosted at SDSC in the event of any localized disaster.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has comprehensive documentation detailing various scenarios that could lead to a declared emergency. For more information, visit OEM for additional information and resources.
