A service overview and catalog of Google Drive provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub.
Google Drive is a cloud-based content collaboration platform for storing, synchronizing, and sharing your files from any device. It allows you to create and collaboratively edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online. It is approved for UC P3 data.
Google Drive includes two primary components:
My Drive (personal storage): Files belong to the individual account holder and are best used for individual work or temporary sharing.
Shared Drives (collaborative storage): Files belong to the team/group, not an individual, making it the best choice for departmental, long-term, or official group documents.
Organize, access and edit Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms directly from one central location.
Store documents, spreadsheets, presentations, photos, videos, and nearly any other file type in the cloud.
Best Use: Organizing and sharing collaborative files and folders for individual work or with limited groups. Use Shared Drives to collaborate as a department or team without data loss.
Options: Available via web browser and mobile and desktop apps.
Integrates With: The entire Google Workspace suite, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail.
My Drive is subject to the Google account storage limits.
Shared Drives have a 25GB default maximum. Expanded Shared Drives are available by request on a first-come-first-served basis. Additional storage is available for purchase via Passthrough Pay Option MOU.
Approved for UC P3 data (formerly UCB PL1)*.
